Significance of Testing and calibration certification for Government Organizations



The increasing competition, high demand of accuracy and reliability of the result Forensic laboratories
are tending toward ISO certification to prove the reliability of the test result. Most of the government
funded forensic or other laboratories outsourced the forensic work from a commercial organization. In
order to avail an international standard for these laboratories nowadays, more government laboratories
are seeking for an international standard that provides the reliability and confidence to the test result
produced.
The European Union Council Framework Decision 2009/905/JHA issues that the government
laboratories need to get certified with the ISO 9001 Saudi Arabia to gain confidence and prove
reliability of the work employed in the testing and calibration procedure. The special focus made on the
DNA and fingerprint laboratories for the accreditation to be completed by 2013 for DNA labs and 2015
for forensic laboratories.
Simultaneously increasing legislation around laboratories providing service to government organization
forcing public laboratories to gain accreditation in order to prove the reliability of the result produced.
The standard also addressed to expend substantial cost in maintenance of the standard. An emerging
trend in the accreditation process noticed with the use of electronic quality and records management
systems in order to minimize the financial impact of the accreditation process. The use of electronic
product aims at the reduction of manual error and loss of data caused during the testing process.
Along with the ISO certification companies are also seeking for other standards to improve their working
procedure and throw an impactful image over their clients. These addition standards that companies are
more inclined include improving quality in physiological diagnostic services’ (IQIPS) programme, etc. The
standard consist of four domains requirement for the accreditation process which includes Patient
Experience; Facilities, Resources and Workforce; Safety and Clinical.
Thus, both government and private laboratories are tending to get the ISO Laboratory
certification. The Accredited laboratory result is more reliable and accepted on an international
platform. Any laboratories performing the testing and calibration operation should get the certification
in order to prove the reliability of the result and procedure employed in producing the high accuracy
result. The organization outsourcing the testing procedure relies mostly on the accredited laboratories.
The standard is also increasing its significance among the forensic laboratories due to the demand of the
high accuracy in the result increasing the legislation intervention. The standard also aims at the
improvement of testing and calibration methods in laboratories across the world.
